CONSERVATION + COMICS

Each July, the International Comic Convention absorbs our city into all things comics and related popular art, including movies, television, gaming, interactive multimedia, and so much more. To continue the excitement year-round, CNMF is proud to fund the park program, Conservation + Comics, a popular option for local San Diego school field trips.

Students are first guided through a thematic nature exploration of the park, then our art education partners lead the students in an innovative way to tell scientific stories – through comics and other modern modalities. Funding for our community comic partners provide students with an opportunity for exploration and deeper dialogue into science and nature.

SUPPORT INTERNSHIPS

Cabrillo National Monument Foundation is proud to fund the internship program at San Diego’s only National Park. These internships are supported through your generous donations! Interns perform essential functions at the Park such invasive plant removal, project planning, research, and scientific discovery. The interns come from organizations including the NPS Scientists in Parks, local universities, and Ecologik alumni.

We introduce you to intern Virginia Javier.

Her video won accolades at a film festival and truly shows the impact that one intern can provide to the Park and to the future of preserving and protecting these public lands.

With your gift to CNMF, you support Cabrillo National Monument’s intern program and help provide opportunities to talented youth and students like Virginia. Without your support of CNMF, programs like this would not exist.

OPEN OUTDOOR FOR KIDS

This program was made possible in part by a grant from the National Park Foundation.

The National Park Foundation created the Open Outdoors for Kids grant to build on a child’s innate wonder and curiosity about the natural world. Open OutDoors for Kids connects students to their national parks through field trips, classroom engagements, and educational activities.

CNMF is honored to be awarded this grant in order to provide over 5,000 San Diego County students the opportunity to visit and learn about Cabrillo National Monument.

SCIENCE EXPLORER CLUB

The sciences explorers club cart is a mobile education table that can be wheeled almost anywhere in the park! The cart allows Park trained volunteers, apprentices, and staff to meet the visitors where they are in the park and present hands on, interactive programming.

NATURALLY SPEAKING TALKS

Our Naturally Speaking series, sponsored by CNMF, offers a fascinating educational opportunity for all those who want to delve into the nature and wildlife at Cabrillo National Monument. These talks cover a range of topics, highlighting the area's incredible biodiversity.

SNAKE AMBASSADORS

The Park’s animal ambassadors do more than quell people’s fear of snakes! They provide a unique opportunity to teach visitors about some of our native snake species at the park, while also explaining the important role snakes play in the environment. CNMF helps the Park maintain this visitor favorite, by allowing our snake friends to be fed and cozy in their enclosures.
