CNMF Selected as Returning Recipient of the National Park Foundation Open OutDoors for Kids Grant

Cabrillo National Monument Foundation is thrilled to announce that we have been selected as a 2024-2025 recipient of the National Park Foundation Open Outdoors for Kids grant! Open OutDoors for Kids allows CNMF the opportunity to connect and inspire the next generation at our very own National Park. As a returning recipient of this grant, we are excited to continue providing over 5,000 San Diego County students the opportunity to visit and learn about Cabrillo National Monument by providing bus funding for Title 1 and fourth-grade classrooms.

One of our dedicated San Diego fourth-grade teachers, Melissa Korte, shared with us in an interview that thanks to bus funding CNMF was able to provide to her class through the Open OutDoors for Kids Grant, she was able to bring her students on a field trip to the park. “The majority of my students had never seen the ocean before” stated Korte, reflecting that her students had an exciting and educational enriching time seeing the ocean, the lighthouse, the tidepools, and the giant ships out on the bay for the first time.

This year, NPF awarded $5 Million in grants to support 111 projects across 124 National Park sites, and we are incredibly grateful that CNMF was selected as one of the recipients. This grant allows us to continue providing bus funding to San Diego Title 1 and fourth grade classrooms throughout San Diego, providing students with the invaluable opportunity to learn about science, history, art, and more at their very own National Park.

Thank you to the National Park Foundation for granting us the opportunity to connect and inspiring the next generation through San Diego's National Park.
