The book includes a 52-page introductory section discussing vegetation,
conservation, taxonomy and many other topics; a 16-page index; and
approximately 3000 color photographs from San Diego County.
This new book follows the format of the 2d edition, published in
January 2006 and out of print, but has been substantially expanded,
corrected, revised, and updated.
Changes to the new book include the highlighting of 150 listed rare
and sensitive plants, most of which were absent from the 2d edition,
and incorporation of the latest taxonomy from the 2011 edition
of The Jepson Manual, which modifies the scientific names of hundreds of plants that are native in San Diego County.
